Rex, W1REX, has had a long love affair with electrons. His father, Ray, instilled that love in Rex at an early age, based on his own life-long relationship with electrons: He spent 30 years in electronics in the Navy and another 40 years as an electrician. Wherever they lived, Ray and Rex were the go-to guys to get anything that ran on electrons fixed.

Rex dabbled with ham radio in high school with the help of one of his best friends -- an Extra-class ham with a full Heathkit line-up in his shack. But Rex also was introduced to computers and programming while still in high school. That's the direction his career took.

Rex studied electrical engineering at the University of Maine and embarked a career married to computers in one form or another.

Rex started out in applications engineering and field service with minicomputers at Texas Instruments, but quickly zeroed in on microprocessors when they hit the scene. He opened one of the first Apple computer stores in the country and spent 15 years selling computers and developing custom applications including both hardware and software. For the past 25 years, Rex has focused on product development. He holds five patents on electronic toys and games and has developed many new products for his own company and for others.

Rex re-encountered amateur radio in 1995 when he attended a local ham-club meeting and passed a no-code Tech license that same night. Rex now holds an Extra-class license. His current interests involve building things (ANYthing), creating fun things, hosting buildathons, selling kits, running Lobstercon, and developing wacky ideas that make fellow electron lovers happy.
