Fred Maas, KT5X
Fred has been a licensed operator since 1958. He enjoys rag-chewing, DXing, QRP, and a little contesting. He won the NM section in the ARRL Sweepstakes or DX Contest 31 times. He retired in 2012 after teaching math, science, and coaching track / cross-country for 40 years. He is a member of A1-OP, CWOPS, FISTS, CFO, and FOC. He is the only operator (known) to work all continents on 160 meters QRP. He has published articles in QST, CQ, K9AY online, and FOCUS. Today his favorite activity is combining his enjoyment of mountain running with ham radio by activating peaks for SOTA, Summits On The Air. Fred was the first operator in North America to achieve Mountain Goat status, and serves as association manager for New Mexico.
