This is the first in a three-part series of presentations that discuss basic RF test and measurement for the beginning amateur-radio operator.  We'll discuss time- and frequency-domain measuring instruments and their application in testing receivers, transmitters, and other RF devices.  We'll also provide information on the selection, configuration, and proper use of an oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, as well as other types of test instruments.  Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) and its application in the testing of coaxial transmission lines will also be demonstrated.  And we'll include information on the proper use of a dummy load, RF attenuator,  and RF power meter.  And in Part 2, we'll show you how you can make these measurements with gear that won't break the bank.
