This forum explains that the FT8, JT65, and JT9 Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) reports are referenced to a much wider noise bandwidth (2500 Hz) than the actual detection noise bandwidth required to successfully decode the digital data represented by the received Frequency Shift Key (FSK) tone. The FSK Tone SNR is much larger, and along with forward-error-correction coding, results in error-free message reception.
