From local weeklies to metro dailies, many publications have had to cut staff and do more with less, including fewer photographers. Yet a good image can sell an otherwise marginal story. So make sure your never-marginal media release includes photos. Yes, you can take images that outlets will want to publish, rather than images they fell impelled to publish because a so-so image is all that was at hand. It takes practice. But you can do it, even with a cell-phone camera. We’ll cover some basics of composition, look at some nifty darkroom apps that can help add zing to your images, and analyze images you will have taken with your cell-phone camera or digital camera at the hamfest -- the assignment mentioned at the end of Part 1's talk.
